European power generation: coal still in the mix

A review of European power generation shows that coal is still very much part of the mix. In the UK, more coal-fired capacity will operate in the open market with the return of a 500MW unit at the Ratcliffe-on-Soar plant. The French government has allowed the countr y’s two remaining coal-fired plants to continue operating until the end of 2024 to ensure security of supply.
